I like Japanese subcultures, so I started studying Japanese when I took a Japanese class at a university in the United States.
I think JPT is good because there are no failures and you can see how far you can go. When I actually took the exam, there were a lot of questions and I didn't have enough time, but I thought it was a well-balanced exam.
My dream is to get permanent residency in Japan and open my own restaurant, so I will read a lot, memorize a lot of kanji, and study Japanese.
